For news organizations maximizing audience reach out and interaction is the top priority. Because of how readily assessable information is and the constant overload of information on social media news organizations need to find new ways to engage with their audience and keep their attention.

Interestingly enough their market growth has been increasing in unconventional apps such as Pinterest. The New York Times and CBS news use the app to promote their ‘light’ work. The articles that make talk about cooking and traveling, stuff that just inspires people to be happy. A great technique because on this app they are not trying to inform people or give them the latest breaking news, there they are trying to build an audience, if a person looks to them for traveling and cooking tips, they are more likely to turn to them and trust them for all their news.

To use Pinterest successfully journalists, need to first understand how it works, learning the basics and how the algorithm works is the most important thing. Second, create an aesthetic and stick to it, remain consistent with content. Third, use engaging videos and images, making sure your content catches stand out among the millions of images and videos on the app is vital. Fourth, choose content that you have an expertise on, people on Pinterest are looking for the best recipes or DIYs. Last, promote your content on all your social media pages, ask people to share it and actively engage with your audience by sharing and liking when they share their results.
